Congratulations to all that participated on Sunday’s Cowes-Torquay-Cowes Powerboat Race, which had the go ahead, despite the terrible weather and ran the storm course. The conditions were so bad that unfortunately two of the participant’s boats were turned over in the storm. Dry Martini was hit the worst and nearly sunk off the needles, all of their team were retrieved back to safety.
The Cougar Fortitudo team led the majority of the race, only to be pipped over it’s winning position by Silver Line Tools at just a thousand metres from the finish line. It was a strong performance from all participants and we would like to thank everyone that came down to support us. It was a great race and we look forward to welcoming you again to the next.
The 58th Cowes-Torquay powerboat race will see teams, including Fortitudo competing for the famous British Harmsworth Trophy over the August Bank Holiday weekend (25th/26th August 2018). There are over thirty-two boats already entered, including boats from the UK, America, Belgium, Sweden, and Bermuda, this year promises to be the biggest for many years. The race takes places over a 200-mile reach and is known as one of the toughest powerboat challenges. You will be able to view the race from both Boscombe and Bournemouth Pier at approximately 10:15 am, with speeds of over 110 MPH. The team at Fortitudo look forward to welcoming you there.
